The Cynthiana-Harrison County Recreation Department provides Basketball Leagues for youth and adults at the City Hall Gym. The gym is located off of Pleasant Street in Cynthiana behind the Fire Station. League play begins the Monday after Thanksgiving and runs until the end of February.

The following leagues are offered:

6 & 7-Year-Old Instructional League
This league is for 6 & 7-year-olds and is played on Saturday mornings. Games are played on an 8-feet goal and is for the development of basic basketball skills. This league has volunteer coaches and sponsors which provide each player a shirt. Games includes 3-eight-minute quarters, a four-minute fourth quarter, culminating with every player shooting 2 free throws each. All players receive trophies in this league. The coaches also serve as referees and the Recreation Department provides scorekeepers.

8 & 9-Year-Old Training League
This league is for 8 & 9-years-olds. This league begins with try-outs the 1st Tuesday of November and games are played on Monday and Tuesday nights at 5:30 and 6:30 at the city hall gym. Games are played on 9 foot goals. This league requires each player to play 1 full quarter and to sit out 1 full quarter. The Recreation Department hires referees and scorekeepers. This league has volunteer coaches and sponsors to provide each player a shirt. Until the season officially starts, practices are held at City Hall Gym. Thereafter, practices are held each Saturday at the Harrison County Middle School. The cost is $50.00 per player. At the end of the season, the top teams are awarded trophies, and every player participating in the league receives participation certificates.

10 & 11-Year-Old J.V. League
This league is for 10 & 11-year-olds. Try-outs begin on the 1st Thursday of November, while games are played on Wednesday and Thursday nights at the City Hall Gym. Games are played on 10 foot goals. This league requires each player to play 1 full quarter and to sit out 1 full quarter. The Recreation Department hires scorekeepers and referees. This league has volunteer coaches and sponsors to provide each player a shirt. Until the season officially starts, practices are held at City Hall Gym. Thereafter, practices are held each Saturday at the Harrison County Middle School. The cost is $50.00 per player. At the end of the season, the top teams are awarded trophies, and every player participating in the league receives participation certificates.

Middle School Basketball
Plans are being made for a Middle School-aged league. Coaches are needed, and anyone wishing to help should contact Kenny Copes, 859.234.7155 for more information.

Saturday Church Youth League
This league is made up of church youth groups throughout the area. This League is for players between 13 and 18 years of age and still in school. Each team must have an adult coach, and may not have any players that already play for a High School Varsity, Junior Varsity or a Freshman Team of any kind. This league playes on Saturday afternoon and is played at the City Hall Gym beginning in January.

Adult Basketball Leagues
The following church basketball leagues are offered at the city hall gym. These leagues are for players who attend the church that they are playing for 2 Sundays per month. These leagues start playing after Thanksgiving each season and run till the end of February. The recreation Department provides scorekeepers and referees for this league and each team must provide shirts of the same color with numbers on the front and back.

Monday Night Church League
Games start at 7:30 each Monday Night , this is classified as the "C" league.

Tuesday Night Church League
Games start at 7:30 each Tuesday Night, this is classified as the "B" league.

Thursday Night Church League
Games start at 7:30 each Thursday Night, this is classified as the "A" league.
